viruses is a living thing that need us to reproduce and make us sick in some cases
The sun is abiotic ( a non-living thing ) because it does not have a brain or heart so it doesn't have the necessary organs needed to live. ( be alive / survive )
Though the sun is abiotic it is a source of energy to biotic things. If the sun were to die out biotic things would soon follow.
Viruses are a biotic factor that greatly affect us.
viruses (biotic) need us to live and reproduce. they are gross.
There are viruses that will not harm us. Some viruses that attack non human organisms will not attack us.
There are some types of Bacteria and Fungi that are good and helpful but some can be dangerous and can make you sick.
and they are both biotic :)
Remember a mushroom is a fungus. Some mushrooms we can eat. Other types of mushrooms can harm or possibly kill us.
biotic and abiotic things have large effects on an ecosystem and each other. ex. more beavers= more dams=less trees, and messed up water flow.
Remember each biotic organism has a job to do in our ecosystem. We saw how this works in are brief you tube video on Thursday. The beavers, trees, wolves, etc. each played a good role and a bad role in the ecosystem.
biotic is living and abiotic is non-living
What are some examples of abiotic things that would affect us if they no longer existed?
we have learned that biotic means a living thing and that abiotic means non-living. we also learned that some bacteria is helpful but some can make you sick. the good bacterias help fight off the bad bacterias. :D
Did you know that penicillin is a from of bacteria? It was 1st discovered on moldy bread.
anything with a brain is biotic and anything that doesn't have a brain is abiotic
not really... plants don't have a brain and they are biotic
Does the cell itself have a brain? Plants do not have a form of conscious? Does this mean that they do not have a brain?
Are you sure about this? Does bacteria have a brain? If so what is it?
viruses need living organisms to live if they don't have a living organism the virus will die
I like your comparison. All living organisms play a role in the ecosystem some good, some bad. As long as the virus is given the source to live it will continue to do so. Just look at the Ebola outbreak. Until that virus is contained and we take the necessary precautions, it will continue to spread.
abiotic is non-living and biotic is a living thing
Now that you have been researching biotic and abiotic factors, what else can you say about them?
parasites live off other organisms
What is the scientific name for the organism that a parasite lives off of called?
There is some bacteria thats good for us and there is also bacteria that is not good for us!!!
You are right. What kinds of bacteria is good for us? What kinds are bad for us?
plants don't really have a brain but they do have a nucleus.
Just the fact that plants are made of cells makes them biotic. Plants can either help or hurt other biotics in the world. They are part of photosynthesis which is good. Some however can hurt us.
So anything that has cells is biotic because cells make the entire organism and anything that isn't made up of cells is abiotic?
Has any scientist figured out how many cells are in the entire human body both inside and out?
According to a study done by the Smithsonian Institute there are 37.2 Trillion cells making up the human body. That's many cells!!
wow, that's a lot of cells.
Things are biotic if they are made up of cells
Is a wooden desk biotic or abiotic? Now that its not attached to roots wouldn't it be abiotic?
Aisha, a wooden desk would be abiotic because it is no longer living, and it doesn't have cells. And yes because it is no longer attached to the roots it is no longer biotic.
